Ascent Trip Report

From Crescent on OR 97 take OR 61, then FSR 5815 and FSR 500 for 6.7 miles to a locked gate about 1 below below Odell Butte and its L.O. The first L.O. was a 12'x12' frame cabin atop a log crib built in the 1920s. It was replaced in 1932 by a L-4 cab on a 20' tower. The present L.O., built in 1961, is an R-6 flattop live-in with catwalk on a 30' treated wood tower. Darryl was the relief staffer today. The regular staffer is longtime veteran Jim Shotwell, regarded as the best in the area.
