Ascent Trip ReportFrom Paskenta follow paved Round Valley Rd (M4) across Thomes Creek and, 5 miles above the Salt Creek Conservation Camp, turn left on FSR 23N69; proceed 3.7 miles to M9, passing Black Bear and Conklin Orchard Campgrounds; follow M9 2.8 miles to a sign pointing to Valley View L.O. just south of the Valley View Campground (4,763'); follow this road (ignore spur road 0.3 mile on the left) 0.7 mile to the top of bald, open Valley View Mountain and the site of the former Valley View L.O.. There is a small, fenced communications facility 0.2 mile from the L.O. site. Good views from Snow Mountain to Black Butte, Anthony Peak, and the Yolla Bollys. I returned to M9, detouring to Red Mountain en route south to county road #306, which joins CA 162 near the Grindstone Reservoir. |
