Ascent Trip Report

From the junction of the Valley View Mountain road and M9, I followed M9 south for approx 4 miles to a point where it turns sharply right and heads downhill. At this junction the lower of two roads (unsigned FSR 22N75) heads down for 1.3 miles to a saddle before climbing 0.7 mile to a convenient parking area near an open, weathered gate. I walked the remaining distance (less than 0.25 mile) up the rocky road to Red Mountain and the site of the former Red Mountain L.O. The summit is cluttered with communications equipment. Back on M9 (County Road 313), this good road continues downhill to connect with County Road 306, north of the Grindstone Rancheria and Elk Creek.
