Ascent Trip Report

Got up and out by 4:30 from Yosemite West to check out May Lake Sierra High Camp and Mount Hoffmann. My brother had left for work, and he had the books with the route beta, so I figured I would just follow trails and work it out. Got to the trailhead a little bit after dawn and hiked up to the High Camp just before they served breakfast. Moved past the camp and around the north side of May Lake. Beautiful area! I hiked up the slabs toward the col between Hoffmann and Tuolumne Peak. Once I got high enough, I spied what looked like a 2nd/3rd class scramble up the northeast arete. This isn't as steep as the north ridge or east face, but was very fun and the views were great. After reaching the summit plateau, I paid my respects to the guardian Marmot (he was huge) and saw the main climbing trail that headed off toward the south. I scrambled up to the summit, took some photos and enjoyed the fact I was completely alone. After heading down the normal route, I began to see other climbers. I hiked back to my car and was back in Yosemite West by noon. Great day in the mountains.
