Ascent Trip ReportFrom the Callahan-Cecilville Rd a few miles east of Cecilville, take FSR 39N14 approx 17 miles to Black Bear Summit, passing Eddy Gulch L.O. (12+ miles)en route. From Black Bear Summit an unsigned dirt road leads in approx. 4 miles to the closed Blue Ridge L.O., #5 on the CA list of the National Historic Lookout Register. The steel frame tower is one of the tallest I've visited. Access to the cab wasn't possible. More great views, wonderful solitude. Return to Black Bear Summit and take road 6.5 miles to the Sawyers Bar-Etna Rd just east of Sawyers Bar. If Blue Ridge L.O. is the only objective, the route from Sawyers Bar to the L.O. via Black Bear Summit is considerably shorter than the drive in from the Callahan-Cecilvill Rd on FSR 39N14 via the Eddy Gulch L.O., as I did.
