Shortly before Cecilville take the signed dirt road (FSR 39N14) about 12 miles on good dirt road to the remotely situated Eddy Gulch L.O., which is #4 on the CA list of the National Historic Lookout Register. Extensive views of the Trinity Alps Wilderness, the Russian Wilderness, and the Marble Mountain Wilderness. No human evidence except for a glimpse of Sawyers Bar 4,500' below on the North Fork of the Salmon River. From the staffed L.O. continue on FSR 39N14 to Black Bear Summit (about 5 miles), then, after an optional detour to the Blue Ridge L.O., descend in 6.5 miles to the Sawyers Bar-Aetna Rd.
