Ascent Trip Report

From Callahan drive on the Callahan-Cecilville Rd over Carter Meadow Summit and down along the East Fork of the South Fork of the Salmon River. Shortly before Cecilville take the signed dirt road (FSR 39N14) about 12 miles on good dirt road to the remotely situated Eddy Gulch L.O., which is #4 on the CA list of the National Historic Lookout Register. Extensive views of the Trinity Alps Wilderness, the Russian Wilderness, and the Marble Mountain Wilderness. No human evidence except for a glimpse of Sawyers Bar 4,500' below on the North Fork of the Salmon River. From the staffed L.O. continue on FSR 39N14 to Black Bear Summit (about 5 miles), then, after an optional detour to the Blue Ridge L.O., descend in 6.5 miles to the Sawyers Bar-Aetna Rd.
