Ascent Trip ReportLatour Butte in Latour State Forest was a bit tricky for me to find from CA 44, but directions from the Calfire station in Shingletown helped. Drive east from the Calfire station past the KOA campground to Starlite Pines Rd, turn left and drive approx 1 mile to Ritts Mill Rd. Turn right, then very soon take a left as Ritts Mill Rd splits from Emigrant Trail. Continue on the good dirt road, taking note of the 4-way junction (7.2 miles from CA 44)and turning right heading uphill rather than going straight through a white gate marked with a "2." LaTour Butte and the staffed Calfire L.O. is 5+ miles from this junction (12 miles from CA 44). Rather isolated as it is, I was surprised from reading the visitors book how often Latour Butte L.O. is visited, mostly by people from the upper Central Valley. One of the vistors books dates back to 1944.
