Ascent Trip Report

This was a private, four day trip led by Maris Valkass and Ron Jones. On day one, the group backpacked about 22 miles from the Sunset Meadows trailhead to upper Cloud Canyon. On day two, the group climbed Glacier Ridge via a class 2 route and class 4 summit block from the south, then returned to upper Cloud Canyon. Later that day, only Bob Wyka, Lance Dixon and I were interested in climbing Triple Divide Peak, so the three of us made our way up the canyon to Glacier Lake and then up to Triple Divide Pass. From the pass, we climbed up class 2 slabs and talus to the summit, staying on the south side of the peak's east ridge. After signing the summit register, we returned to our camp in upper Cloud Canyon. On the third day, the group climbed Whaleback via its class 3 East Face, Left Side route, then returned to camp. Afterwards, Bob and I headed out, hiking about 20 miles and almost making it out to the vehicle before dark. The next day, we had a leisurely two mile or so backpack out to the car.
