Ascent Trip Report

This was a 9 day backpack trip to climb 8 peaks located along the King-Kern Divide that are on the SPS list. On day six, we day hiked Thunder Mountain via its East Ridge Route. From camp located along the Kern River, we hiked up the drainage to the large lake located SSE of the summit and then up the slope to the peak's south summit. From there, we dropped down to and continued along a ledge towards the middle summit. Dan belayed each of us across a very exposed section of the ledge that went around a corner and then across an airy bridge that got us over to the middle summit. Afterwards, we traversed along the east side of the middle summit to the base of the north summit. From there, Asher free climbed the class 4 summit block, then belayed each of us up/down the summit. Trip stats include the backpack part of the trip from the Shepherd Pass trailhead.
