Ascent Trip Report

Ranger said we didn't need ice ax and crampons for Mt Abbot. Got to Ruby Lake and saw that we would, so we turned around, hiked out, drove to Grandview Campground in the Whites and climbed White Mtn the next day. It's a 15 mile round trip hike on dirt road with 3200' gain (450' on the return), topping out at a research facility (appeared to be for weather) at 14,246'. There were dark rain clouds over the Sierra and all around us, but we only got a few drops. Beautiful day, excellent views, 6 bighorn sheep.
