Ascent Trip Report

This was my first winter ascent of Granite Mountain. The trail was muddy at the start but I hit snow fairly soon. I used snowshoes until I started the final ascent up an avalanche chute (there were not avalanche warnings that day) where I changed to crampons and ice axe. The route up the chute was steep and fairly demanding but I was fortunate enough that a previous climber had already kicked steps up the chute. The wind was strong on the summit and the snow was blowing. I was able to glissade down the chute saving a lot of time on the decent.
