Ascent Trip Report

Decided to do the Dix Range today with David. Met off Exit 29 of the Northway in Newcomb at 7 am. On the trail at 7:45. Dix Trail heading in was mostly dry and easy going. Met a man by the name of Tim coming out which was odd because it was still fairly early. He told us he had gotten confused as to where the beckhorn trail was. After sending him back in the right direction we started climbing the trail towards Macomb's slide. Just before reaching the slide we were passed by two younger men, Aaron and Chris. Climbing the slide was amazing. Took a few steps to get comfortable but then it wasn't too bad. Actually it was a lot of fun. Once past the slide I started hearing voices to my left. I knew there was no one behind us and only Aaron and Chris in front of us. Some how they had gotten off trail and were bushwhacking . We called out and they quickly responded until we talked them over to the trail. You could tell that they had started to get that "oh crap" feeling. Once they caught their breath we decided to tackle the range as a group. Soon after, we reached the summit of Macomb. Number 22 for me. I asked Chris and Aaron how many it was for them. Their answer? "One."

Trip continues...on to South Dix.
