Ascent Trip Report

To get there:From the Nevada/California border on Hwy 264, drive 0.9 mile north to Yolumne Rd on right. Follow Yolumne Rd 2.9 miles to where Yolumne becomes McAfee Canyon Rd and continue straight. Follow McAfee Cyn Rd as it eventually turns east up the canyon for 7.3 miles to a saddle. No shoulder here to park on so I put the Jeep in 4WD and turned left up an old dirt road for 0.1 mile and parked.

Piper Peak is due north from this spot almost 3 miles away. You can't see the peak until you get over the large bump in front. The climb was pleasant hike through pinyon pine forest. Don't fooled like I was when you see the small weather station on the false summit to the west (Peak 9444). I guess not all weather stations are put on the actual high point.

Came back to a flat tire on the Jeep. I put the spare on successfully drove back down the canyon without further incident.

Around 2200 feet of total gain for the climb.
