Ascent Trip Report Today we were set out to go to Enchanted Rock, one of the most well-known state parks in Texas. It was similar to Stone Mountain in that it was a giant granite rock mountain, but the park felt more natural since it was barely commercialized. Emilie, Dad, and me went for a run around the 4 mile park loop. Brice, Patrick and Mom went and checked out one of the granite rocks, Turkey Peak. Emilie and I pulled ahead of Dad early on the run. We both loved the loop - it was full of things to look at, and was pretty hilly at parts. I can't imagine how hot it must get in the summer, but the weather was absolutely perfect on this day, no clouds and about 65 degrees. At one point in the run Emilie and I stopped to take in a view and climb some rocks. We got up to the tallest one in the area and found a little puddle at the top with some little transparent creatures swimming around in it which we later found out were called fairy shrimp. At one point, Emilie spotted Dad running by while we were up there so she shouted out at him and he came up top with us. We finished the run and then had some lunch.
After our meal, we all climbed the main trail to the summit of Enchanted Rock. It's a short climb, with views all around you, amazing place. There were a lot of people on the mountain because of the holidays. Afterwards we took a stop in Fredricksburg, a little town nearby. We took a walk down the touristy strip and had some ice cream. Some cool cowboy outfitters and quaint shops to look at. After our day we found some Enchanted Rock Vodka at the package store on the way home.
