Ascent Trip ReportNice easy hike. A few steep ledges until the top where the ancient red rhyolite comes into view as a bunch of jagged blocks. The rhyolite is non-vasicular (no gas escape holes) like the gray glassy rhyolite we have on Kineo. The formations are odd and not what you expect in MO. The reading material says it was formed over 1 billion years ago. Kinda neat to stand on rock that old looking down over the farmland in the distance. Very simple short but pleasant hike. Took it slow as the doctor ordered since he was still evalauating my heart. At very slow pace it took no more than 15 minutes to summit. Nice walk with about 400 feet of gain and plenty of views from the rock ledges. Lots and lots of fence lizzards running around and they are interesting to watch - they stand their ground pretty well. |
