Ascent of Donnelly Peak on 2012-04-15
|Date:||Sunday, April 15, 2012|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||8533 ft / 2600 m|
Ascent Trip ReportThis was more difficult than it needed to be. I tried a couple driving approaches from the west, and ended up hiking up one of the steeper sides of the mountain because I got impatient and didnt follow the road to its end. Beautiful conditions and snow the last 800 feet or so. Unable to find a register on summit.
I think the quickest approach is to drive Highway 34 north out of Gerlach until reaching the Willow Creek turn off Just past the Swingle Ranch, and then following Barley Road down into Donnelly Valley. If you stay on the most obvious road, it leads ultimately to some diggings on the 7000 foot level of the mountain. Important note, the southern half of Barley Road, looks like a quicker more direct route, but the quality of the road is far worse.
