Ascent Trip ReportThis is a really neat little rock that overlooks all of Liberty Lake down through the Spokane Valley. You can see parts of lake CdA and Newman Lake too from the 360 view. I've hiked up here from three different ways. The one off signal point road is the fastest but you have to know where to turn off the logging roads (it's about 2.5 miles one way from this entry). I've also looped around from the Liberty Lake state park and bushwacked my way up the rock which I wouldn't recommend and you can always enter from the south entrance or backside of Mica Peak (Idaho) for a longer hike plus you can summit Mica Peak while you're at it. Once you get to the top of Shasta Butte you'll find a bench to sit on and there should still be a registry hidden somewhere amongst the rocks. Hands down the best local spot to find an amazing full moon view...even better if you get the chance to snowshoe up there. |
