Ascent Trip Report

This was a pure bushwhack. We stay at the Alpine Inn every New Years and I had been hankering to climb Fir, as it is right behind the Inn. It was damp when I started and just got wetter until I hit the snow line. I heard there was a manway or herd path on the north spur, but I never found it. Saw bear track, lots of deer sign, and some sort of smallish cat (bobcat?) tracks. Tried to take the direct line down, but ran into some rocky areas where I needed to scramble. Finally I dropped down to an old forest road which dropped me out to the road a half mile above the Alpine Inn. Exhausting three hours (and change).
