Ascent Trip ReportFirst I should note that this peak has no legal public access.
From Business 220 in Altoona I took Kettle Rd. east (Pa. 971 according to maps but unmarked as such). In 3 1/2 miles I turned onto a dirt lane, Wise Lane. At an intersection with a private property sign straight ahead I veered right onto Blackie Lane which dead ends at a driveway. I asked the owner if I could park there and climb the mountain. She said parking was fine, she didn't own the property behind the house, it belongs to the "Johnsons, but she didn't think they'd mind if I took a short walk up the hill. The area is posted.
A use path intersects with a rough forest rd. that reaches the ridge line about 0.4 mi. south of the high point. I lost the road at the ridge line but ran into it again and took it to within 300 feet of my high point coordinates. The top is heavily forested and offers no views but many gaps in the trees offer panoramic views on the way up and down. I bushwhacked on a GPS heading most of the way down. Some slippery footing on leaf covered rocks but about 0.4 mi. shorter. A P1000 peak.
