Ascent Trip ReportA track/trail/bushwack ..... 3.6km, 1h30 hours RT.
We approached from the south by leaving hwy 40 at exit 236 (east of Trois Rivieres) and travelling east on 354 to the huge church at Saint-Casimir. We turned left and traveled north on 363 for 11.2km to a yellow farm house #109 on the left (just after going under a Power Line). The owner was on his tractor doing some grading-work on the dirt road beside the barn (north side of the house) that leads to his land to the west. He was very receptive and warmly gave me permission to drive the dirt road towards Cap de Roche. From the yellow house at hwy 363 we drove the dirt road as it winds its way generally west for 2km to the end of the driveable road at a nice chalet (pass/ignore a number of side roads and a trailor camp on the way, always stay on the main road)..... I would find out later that this chalet and the nice ponds and woods in this area belonged to the brother of the guy on the tractor. This was my TH, the summit is to the southwest.
From the TH take the ATV track to the right of the chalet heading generally west, stayed right at the first fork (left goes down to the large pond), descend-to/cross a large low/wet/boggy area (there is a moose salt lick trap with a monitoring device and Hunter's Shooting Towers), ascend .3km to a T-junction (this junction is estimated at .8km from the chalet TH). Turn left on the good ATV track as it leads (on a 140 degree compass reading) to the Power Line right-of-way and beyond. At about .4km look for a hidden/overgrown track on the right (there is a pink tape blaze here), the Power Line is .2km further on. Turn right on the track (it becomes a good cut/unmaintained trail with pink and orange tape blazes, easy to follow) and follow it as it winds/climbs about .5km to the north side of the summit. Just before (10 meters) it reaches a bump and begins to descend look for pink blazes on the left. Follow/bushwack the blazes southeast 100 meters to the summit, open deciduous woods with a number of tracks.
The summit has a fairly new BM, a round concrete base with a steel rod, which is not necessarily "the" HP, my GPS read 46.69308, -72.26676. There are no views to be had on this trip.
