Ascent Trip Report

Climbed the Machame route with Zara tours. I had a great time for the most part. The weather was perfect. I started with a viral chest cold which was only exacerbated by the altitude. I felt bad for everyone in each camp we stayed at because of the constant coughing keeping people up all night. I only got a couple hours of sleep in the first 3 days. Summit night we woke up at 11:00 prepared, had tea and then we were off towards the summit. At first I was feeling pretty good, then my cough got worse and experienced some other symptoms of altitude sickness. Although I took every step myself, I have to credit my guide for getting me to the summit on this mountain. After we summited I started to feel better and we cooked down the mountain to burafu camp. And we started our descent to mweke camp. I talked to my guide and we decided to go all the way to mweke gate and get off the mountain a day early. It was a long day!
