Ascent Trip ReportAs far as I can determine, Mount Buckley is the 4th highest named point in Tennessee and the 7th highest named point in North Carolina, since its summit lies directly on the NC-TN state boundary. The Appalachian Trail passes directly over the summit of Mount Buckley. My wife, Geri, and I hiked over this peak during a sectional hike of the AT in May of 2003. The saddle between Clingmans Dome and Mount Buckley is not low enough to technically call it a separate peak, but it is a separately "named" point and I believe has the 4th highest elevation in Tennessee and the 7th highest elevation in North Carolina for a named point. This peak can be easily climbed by using the Clingmans Dome trail and then hiking west on the AT for less than 1/2 mile.
