Ascent Trip Report

We got to Winslow State Park at about 10:45 A.M. We got our stuff together and then headed up the Winslow Trail that goes to the summit of Mt. Kearsarge.

The trail wound up the mountain's northwestern slope for 1.1 miles. There were some steep parts, but they weren't that difficult to ascend. The trip up the trail went by rather quickly. At the beginning of the trail, there was a power line that crossed it. After that, we could faintly see from the slope. Once we passed the first true viewpoint, the trail turned right and visibility dropped. Right after we passed it, rain started to fall, so we put on our rain jackets. Eventually we reached the summit, and the rain got worse.

The summit was filled with towers and buildings. At this point, the rain was coming down hard, the wind picked up to about 40 mph tops, and there were no views at all. My dad found a shack that would shield us from most of the bad stuff, and we stayed in it for a while to eat and drink water. After I called my mom to let her know we were okay, we walked around the summit for a bit. We were thinking about going up the tower, but quickly decided against it.

We went back down the Winslow Trail to my truck.
