Ascent Trip Report

We attempted Goat Mountain farther up the North Fork road today, but a low cloud layer and slow bushwhacking progress caused us to turn around early. Driving back we spotted this bump not knowing whether it had a name, but it looked like it had 400' of prominence, which as it turns out it does. Having a whole afternoon free we thought we'd get to the top of something at least, and this promised a reasonable view of the parade of clearcuts along the North Fork road.

Not much to say about the climb except that 6' high fox glove flower stalks carpeted the mountain making it look very pretty, but they were slightly wet and we spent the whole way up pushing through them looking for solid footing amidst all the slash. Not having done any research, we were surprised to stumble across a road near the summit, but glad that we wouldn't have to go back down through the slash.

We followed the road to the saddle then took the old spur visible on the satellite photos that headed in the direction of where our car was parked. This eventually petered out into thickets of alder and blackberry bushes so at a stand of trees old enough to allow reasonable passage we bushwhacked straight down to the road and road walked back to the car.

We claim the first complete circumnavigation of Lion's Main ascent via the north ridge :-)
