Ascent Trip Report

After a rather late start (2 P.M.), I hit the trail under what initially were blue skies. This pleasant state of affairs didn't last long as a robust downpour (accompanied by thunder) descended on what was a nicely-maintained trail with VERY few boggy patches. Though the rain didn't compromise the trail, all the overhanging foliage became drenched (so did I). The early part of the hike--through a thick coniferous forest--was quite beautiful though the near lack of elevation gain over the course of the first 2 or so miles does make for an abrupt awakening when the rocky last push to the first real views occurs. A note of caution--I did some inadvertent bushwhacking near the final push for a sub-summit/views because of some poorly placed trail markers. Trails to views were marked with a few bits of pink tape/ribbon though they were often hard to locate. My slogging through wet brush resulted in the soggiest clothing I've ever had on a hike. Cloud cover descended on the summit as I found my way back to the marked trail so that by the time I reached the top, even purported overlooks yielded little. Views from the sub-summits were quite nice.
