Ascent Trip Report

Originally wanted to do Paperboy/Boomerang, but there was a ton of snow and the Ark looked more feasible, I was feeling lazy. Had to park shy of the Snoqualmie Lake TH at Garfield Ledges due to snow cover. The big switchbacks off the Quartz Creek Trail along the logging road were long and slow. At about 3900' you'll lose where there should be an established path/road/trail, and head NNE to the saddle between Cockerel Point and the southern ridge of the Ark. About 4500' is the saddle, and the route up to here meanders throughout the tree line. There was a fantastic booth path that I was able to stay on and made things much easier. I heard there is talus in this area, but the snow cover blanketed the entire area. The ridge is narrow and takes you east to the final section about 200' below the summit.

The tracks stopped about 30' vertical of the summit. I put on crampons, pulled out my axe, and made the final ascent in dagger mode. Severe cornice gave me some anxiety but it was a very fun summit in prime condition!

On the way down I skipped the largest switchback and headed straight down, it was steep, cliffy, and I'm not sure it was worth the effort, given that it probably didnt cut down too much on actual distance.
