Ascent Trip ReportFrom the Point of Rocks parking area I followed the path to its end, and then continued East towards the canyon across the valley. The canyon has a spectacular dryfall, perhaps 60 ft, which I didn't attempt. Instead I bypassed it to the north. A little further, at about 3300 ft, I reached a basin, and from there I gained the ridge via a wash. The ridge was rough with sharp rock, and steep at places, as the ridges often are in this area. I followed it East for a mile or so before the final ascent, first of Rocky Benchmark, then of Peak 4140. Great views. I was very surprised to find a register at the top, and one the top of Rocky Benchmark too, right next door.
On the way down I followed the steep wash off the peak, and it soon turned into a steep scree pile, and then back into a wash again. From then it was easy going back to the trailhead. |
