Ascent Trip ReportThis was a car-free highpoint. I walked from my apartment near 12th & John to the #14, which I took downtown. I then took the Argosy cruise to Tillicum Village, but paid for transport only.
The State Park actually maintains some trails around the island, which was a very good thing. Summer is not the time for Puget Sound island highpointing - the stinging nettles are vicious. The weed-whacked trails got me straight into the highest contours. After getting roughed up by nettles, I donned all the gear I had including full rain gear, which made the off-trail stomping around less painful.
I took a few long breaks, enjoying the forest, and barely made it back for the next boat.
Ken and Edward found an unmapped point that seems to be the highest on the island and should be checked out. With so many islands to visit and sitting at only 213+ feet, I doubt I'll rush to pay Argosy to make the crossing again. I do know two people with boats, though obviously Ken's not heading back to Blake anytime soon. We'll see if Calder has any interest...
