Ascent Trip Report

Well, this adventure ended up great despite the fact that we didn't make it to our intended destination- Strawberry Peak. After getting a late start, we didn't hit the trail head until 8:25am. I've never taken the Colby Canyon trail before from the ACH so it was fun just to be on a different trail Saturday. The weather was absolutely fantastic for December! No wind to speak of and not that cold! There was a little dusting of snow left on the North side of Josephine Saddle but other than that the trail was in great shape.

We then took the use trail up towards Strawberry only to find out that it involved some Class 3 rock scrambling which we really didn't have the time to do. (or the experience- I still am not completely comfortable with the exposure. I'm sure most of you wouldn't give this part of the route a second thought but I guess everyone has different levels of security on exposed rock!) Oh well, maybe next time.

We turned around at this point and will try again another day.

BTW is there another approach to Strawberry that anyone out there has used to get up there?? I've tried an approach in blue last April and our hike on Saturday in yellow. Anyone tried to get up there on the green route? (red dash off trail) Would it be any easier or still some exposure? (SEE BELOW on TOPO map)

Anyways we had a great time hiking in SoCal!
