Ascent Trip Report

A track and cross-country hike ..... .8 miles, 40 minutes RT for both areas.

We found our way to Emmerson Road, the east-west road just south on the summit area and went to House # 2869 for permission to access their property. Bill Caward, a nice gentleman, told me, "I am sorry but I been refusing access because of the number of people that go to the top without permission or respecting the "Posted" signs".
He told me of a couple from New York city that he stopped on the way down (they had driven to the top) and got into an argument with the lady, "I don't need this shit". I told him that I agreed and didn't understand why they would drive up, "I would walk up".
He told me that he didn't give Gary Fallesen permission to access his property, "He didn't even talk to me". He wasn't a happy camper.
I congratulated him in living in such a beautiful place, he told me that there are plans for a Wind Turbine farm in this area similar to the one to the southwest, apparently a number of people are against it, which he couldn't understand "It will provide power for the whole county". Apparently 2 Turbines will be on his property each one bringing him about 10k$ per year.
When he found out I was a Canadian, he said "Nothing personal of course but I don"t know about you Canadians". He gave me the details of a scam that he is subjected-to, he apparently paid someone 15k$ dollars for a Hunting Camp only to be canceled without reimbursement.
Rose showed her love/chatted with Bill about his his 3 dogs, after a chatting a bit more the subject came back to the Highpoint and he nicely said "Well I guess you can go up, I appreciate you coming here for permission".
It was evident that Bill is a friendly/class guy just wanting some respect. "Please tell people that access is not permitted".

Western Area .... 100 yards west of the house a track leads north to the top. We parked on Emmerson Road and I walked north up the track 300 yards to just before a height-of-land. To the left is a small pond and a Communication Tower, straight ahead at 40 yards is the height-of-land which could contend for the high point, to the right at 50 yards is the highground where I chose as my spot of this area at GPS 42.59129, 77.29497 (the PB coordinates puts it in a lower spot).
Eastern Area ..... from the Western Area area I walked north of east about 300 yards (around a pond area and over fence lines) to the high ground. I stomped the area the best I could. I returned the same way.

On the way out we pulled in the driveway in to thank Bill once again, his wife and an older gentleman were outside with him.
