Ascent Trip ReportAfter Peak 4000 I continued on Buchanan Road (FS 1N01). The road is excellent until you cross Hunter Springs. After this point High Clearance is needed for the rutted road. I was able to drive up to the junction with FS 1N17 where I parked. Given this development I decided to hike Sugarloaf and PK 4275 in one go which worked out great. This actually was a nice hike, there were no vehicles to be seen and its pretty scenic in this area.
For Sugarloaf I followed FS 1N17 to FS 1N34Y which goes right to the summit. The summit has a small utility shed with a solar panel on top. There is also a FS Benchmark and you can see the old foundation of the lookout.
After Sugarloaf I walked back to the junction of FS 1N17 and followed that for 1.5 miles before going cross country up to the summit. I had forgotten my hiking boots at home and was making the cross country in walking shoes making things a little harder than they should have been. Descended back down to road and hiked back to car. |
