Ascent Trip Report

This county has 2 candidate highpoints located at the very southeast corner of the County, a short semi-bushwack to both areas. I had to make 2 visits all as per this one only TR.

VISIT #1 DATED 2010-08-01 .... successful at area 1.

We drove from Chateauguay to Saint Isidore passing over the Roussillon County highpoint. At the church in Saint-Isidore we traveled west on hwy #207 for 6.5km to a left turn on Chemin de la Grande Ligne. We continued on la Grande Ligne for 2.3km to Mailbox #344 on the left (east side of road, which is all wooded), across the street (west side) is a paved driveway. This was my TH for both candidates, we parked on the side of the road.

AREA 1 .... successful.
Rose waited in the car as I walked 35M further-up the road to a swath in the forest, on the left (east) side ...... an old badly overgrown woods track. I hiked the rough swath generally east for about 150M to where it bends-right/comes to a T-junction with a better woods track, I stayed left and still going generally east I continued for another 200M to where the land is fairly flat. I turned right (south) and entered the open woods looking for a height-of-land. The flat area is fairly large and nothing was obvious, at about 30M I chose a highpoint, My GPS read 45.22092, 73.69564.
Pay attention to the network of plastic tubing used to drain maple sap that you have to go over. Beyond this area towards the south I could see industrial buildings through trees.

AREA 2 ..... unsuccessful.
From Area 1 I continued on a line east of north (on a the same woods track) a good 300M looking for high ground, fairly open woods, the track descended somewhat with no real signs of high ground to speak of, I must have taken the wrong line so I decided to abort and recheck my information for the next time. I returned the same way.
The whole hike to both Areas is perhaps 1.5km, 50 minutes RT including the stomping around. Sometime after this hike I got poison ivy and I think I got it here but I'm not 100% sure since I did a few other hikes in this same period ..... we believe we saw poison ivy in the TH area.

VISIT #2 DATED 2011-06-29 .... successful at area 2.

I came back today for another attempt at AREA 2 ..... this time successful, thereby completing this County.
I started walking northeast on the gated dirt road at mailbox #340 Chemin de la Grande Ligne (just before mailbox #344), at about .4km I arrived at a small chalet named Domaine du Claude Dubue on slight a height-of-land, and 75 meters past I left the dirt road, and bushwacked southeast to the high ground area at 150 meters.
The area is mostly deciduous and fairly open with some dead fall, the going is easy. You have to negotiate a number of old plastic tubing lines (maple collection).
You can identify the high ground area as you make your way but no obvious highpoint. I stomped the whole area and chose my spot where the forest bottom is only tree trunks with little foliage, my GPS read 45.22372, 73.69592.

Before chosing my spot I actually walked southwesterly to AREA 1, then back to AREA 2, my sense told me that AREA 1 higher in elevation than 2.
