Ascent Trip ReportHiked with Dan, Dad, and Samson for winter credit for the Saranac Lake 6er hiking challenge. We got a late start because of Christmas festivities, but no worries because we were prepared to be hiking in the dark. We wore microspikes from the parking area. There was about 2" of slushy snow the whole way. It was nice that someone had removed the snow from the summit disk.
There were no views, the top half of the mountain was in a low cloud. Samson did excellent, as always. The air was very dense with a fine mist that almost made it seem like it was sprinkling. I believe it warmed up a few degrees as we were hiking from about 28F to about 33F despite the sun setting. We all definitely started off too hot and took off layers as we ascended.
We saw no one else on the trail. I've hiked this mountain a couple times in the past, but it was only an out and back via one single route. Now there is a loop trail, so we hiked counterclockwise up the steeper side and down the more gentle side.
