Ascent Trip ReportQuartz Hill has a fire lookout on the summit and a nice road too. I approached Quartz Hill from Hwy 3 south of Yreka and south of Fort Jones. Turn west on the signed Greenvaiew, Quartz Valley Road. Zero your odometer, go 1.9 miles and continue straight onto the lesser Oro Fino Road. At 2.9 miles go straight onto a dirt road. follow this good dirt road for and additional 2.4 miles where you reach a ridgelin and there is a fork off to the left. you can see a gate about 100 yds up this road, so park and hike from here. There is a fire lookout on the summit that looks like it is manned in the summertime. Great views from the summit. |
