Ascent Trip Report

I summitted this 'peak' almost entirely by accident!

I was looking for a dining room table for a new apartment while driving through the countryside when I came upon a garage sale and decided to check it out. I pulled up and didn't see anything I was looking for, but I asked the attendant if they had a dining room table for sale.

At first they said no, but then asked me to wait a moment while they went inside and checked. I almost left at that point, but they eventually came out and said they did, if I was willing to drive (and hike) out to a cabin and pick it up. That kind of weirded me out, so I said I'd need to bring a friend to help me carry it. I took their number, not sure if I'd be calling back.

I looked around for a day or so, then just decided to give them a call. I brought a friend and we followed them around all kinds of back-roads. We finally came to a point where a bunch of pipes were running all over the place, one blocking the dirt road so we had to proceed on foot from there.

We followed the seller along the road for a few minutes and came to a little cabin at the base of a fire lookout. The table looked surprisingly good, so I told them I'd buy it and we hauled it back out to the truck after poking around a bit and deciding not to climb the derelict fire tower. I still kind of regret not climbing that thing, but the table serviced me well for the next three years!

It's possible this may have been in August. Carrying that table out the quarter or half mile was probably the longest walk of my life!
