Ascent Trip ReportAfter a 10 week streak with no long trips, I decided to go for Cannon. I left Beaverton on Friday afternoon and was able to get to the trailhead by 9 pm. I wasn't able to sleep due to the traffic and my air mattress losing air, but I was up at 2:45 and on the trail at 3:30. I reached Colchuck Lake at 5:30 and hung out with a group of thru hikers watching headlamps going up Aasgard and approaching the technical routes on Colchuck. I reached Aasgard around 8:15 and stopped for a water break at Tranquil Lake. I took my time to enjoy the golden larches on the Core Zone and I eventually made it to Prusik Pass around 10. I then dropped down and headed towards Druid Plateau. On the way there, I found 2 parties of 2 people each and eventually tagged the summit around 12:30. I hung out for a bit and then headed down, making it back to Perfection Lake around 2:45. After a 30 min break, I headed back down and made it to the S end of the lake around 7:15.
The hike down was extremely slow and I eventually made it to the trailhead around 10:30. I promptly left the trailhead and headed to Leavenworth hoping something would be open to grab dinner, but ended up getting the only prepared food item left on Safeway: a Chef Special A sushi platter eaten with my hands (I couldn't find chopsticks). After eating, I headed to Ingalls Creek TH to sleep and then drove back to Beaverton in the morning. |
