Ascent Trip Report

A short drive up from Domaine du Radar main entrance on the southwest side Rte Sainte Catherine.

After a failed attempt on Mont du Lac du Cinq (access roads were washed out), we found our way to the Domaine du Radar main entrance on Route Sainte Catherine (privately run), at the southwest side of the mountain, paid our 5$ entrance fee (per person) at the reception (accueil) and drove 2.8 km to the summit.

The summit is capped with an abandoned/huge concrete "Bunker-Like" building (abt 125' square and 3-4 stories high) and Communication Towers, built after the second world war by the USA as part of a NA defensive system during the cold war ( a number were built across Canada) .
The summit was leveled for the installation, I twice walked its circumference looking for the natural high ground with not much luck. I chose a spot in the woods on the right side of the road (on the drive up) just before the Tower to the right, my GPS read 46.33535, 71.14103.

We moved on to the Levis CoHP on the way to Quebec City to watch our Grandaughter play in a Hockey Tournament.

VISIT #2 DATED 2018-09-05
The main reason for this return trip was to visit MONT SAINTE MARGUERITE-NORTHEAST SLOPE, at one time considered a contender for the Robert Cliché COHP -- 400 meters RT whack in dense brush, not recommended.
The entry fee to Domaine du Radar in now 6.50$ per person (30% hike in 7 years).
We drove to the top and parked at the northeast corner of the large flat area around the huge building. The HP is at 200 meters to the northeast (80 feet lower in elevation) on the moderate lopes of the mountain, in extremely dense underbrush.
Sentier #3 leaves this corner southeast bound, as it enters the woods an opening of sorts on the left drops 20 meters to a wall of brush. I started my bushwhack here.
I fought my way down to the PB coordinates and the imaginary County Line. No way to identify the Line so I tried stomping the high areas of both sides of this Line and called it good. Found a steel fence post (?).
Good luck, definitely not a recommended destination.
