Ascent Trip Report

Left Kennewick a little before 4am reaching the West Eagle TH at 7am. Quickly set out, almost immediately after leaving the parking lot I jumped up a group of Elk, a large bull, two cows and a calf right near the spur trail for Fake Creek. Followed Paul McClellan's GPX track for ascent, with a couple small variations along the way for sight-seeing purposes, and for descent I opted to descend into the west basin and reconnect with the trail in the high meadow. The off trail route-finding from Tombstone Pass to summit went pretty well, just stayed high most of the way taking care to avoid the extremely precipitous drop off to the north. Couple little observations along the way today, saw three different Pileated woodpeckers, 15 years ago I rarely saw these birds, now it seems like I am seeing them all the time, that's cool. Watched 3 large cargo planes skim over Brown and Glacier Mountains to the north, then drop well below the elevation of Eagle Cap down into East Eagle Creek and out of view.

Google maps shows this summit as Neuschwanger Mountain, not sure when that name was assigned to it as further internet research doesn't reveal anything at this time.
