Ascent Trip Report

I approached Johnson Hill from the West on Hwy 80. From 80 I turned right (SE) onto Lechner Road. This was non-paved but was in fair condition. At the T-intersection I turned left on Nelson Rd (paved). At the top of the hill there is a white house on the left that seems to be near the highest area. I followed the obvious line to a high point and my altimeter registered 1,386 feet so I assume this was the top. There was an area closer to the house and beyond that appeared it could be higher but since my altimeter indicated I was there I decided to trust the topo maps and my elevation reading. If anyone does anymore investigating into this and finds any extra information I'd be interested to know.

While in the area I was able to check out a portion of the Omaha trail which winds among some pretty bluffs and rock formations. Make sure to climb up to the top of Mill Bluff at the nearby Mill Bluff State Park for even greater views than you'll find on the top of Johnson Hill (although there were nice views from up there). Unfortunately the road into Mill Bluff was closed on this visit (but I've been there in the past).
