Ascent Trip Report

From N, Druschalm, large car park, arriving while tool booth closed there's no way to pay the €9 toll (I later find a notice on windscreen, pay the €9 on way out). 1h05 to Gollinghütte, then good trail up wide grassy valley escaping R up boulder field (good trail) to Gollingscharte. Path keeps L above col then traverses L up onto NW ridge. I'm overtaken just before the NW-grat fork, and as he keeps L, so do I, figuring he probably knows where he's going (I've read the NW Ridge is II). Initially poorly marked, the odd cairn, wear marks. Soon becomes an arete which the route mostly follows, a few worn paint marks, a tricky traverse (we overtake a man with young son, seems to be doing well!), two vertical sections, excellent rock, good holds, great route. Ridge broadens a little, Normal route joins from R, highpoint soon reached, sloping boulder with cairn and cross beyond, a trig block with its toppled neighbour. A dozen folk, warm sun, great views including Dachstein and Großglockner. Up in 3h15, head down the Normal route, plenty of easy scrambling, a few metal steps. Inevitable stop at Gollinghütte for a large Radler. 6h30 round trip.
