Ascent Trip Report

Clearfield County has two high point candidates with recent LIDAR analysis by Andy Hatzsos still putting them at a dead heat. Excellent directions for both can be found on the County High Pointers web site. For the southern point, I found the gate onto Bloom Road off Greenwood Road locked. It was about a 1 mi. round trip walk from there. After about 1/4 mi. on Bloom Rd. a grassy track heads off to the right. A microwave tower is visible up hill and to the right but the high point is about 5-600 feet east of the tower. The closest point on the grassy track is a bit over 400 feet from the high point. Mike Schwartz mentions old trails, but I found these last few hundred feet to be a rough bushwhack from there through heavy underbrush and fallen trees. Round trip took me 28 minutes, but the bushwhack part made it seem longer.

For the spot on Chestnut Ridge I found no changes from previous reports. If your vehicle will make it up the last hill, it's a drive up.
