Ascent Trip ReportStarted the hike at 5:00 am. I thought I would need my headlamp, but the 5:30-ish sunrise brought plenty of pre-dawn light to the trail. The initial set of switchbacks was brutal, especially with a heavy pack full of water and gear. After reaching the San Gorgonio Wilderness boundary, the trail was much more gradual and made for a pleasant stroll along Vivian Creek in the early morning hours. I stopped and had a snack at the Halfway Camp junction, and then another snack break at High Creek Camp, where the sun finally poked over the ridge around 8:00 am.
The steep climb near the tree line was a tough climb--I had to stop frequently. I eventually made it to the summit just before noon and had lunch on the top. The weather was ideal, though the breeze at the top was chilly. I went really fast down the mountain, leaving at 1 pm and arriving at the trailhead at 4:30 pm.
