Ascent of Mount Olympus on 2021-06-30
|Date:||Wednesday, June 30, 2021|
|Ascent Type:||Unsuccessful - Turned Back|
| Elevation:||7709 ft / 2349 m|
Ascent Trip ReportTurned around at the false summit, mainly due to slow party and time considerations. 5.4 N direct route was our goal but we did not head up the snow slope to the route. Currently great conditions on the glacier, no major crevasses but they are definitely there, water source available on blue glacier right below snow dome.
Rope on ladder before glacier meadows is currently bad, ranger said they will hopefully be replacing this week.
For lateral moraine, head as far as you can until you descend. There are cairns marking a 'trail' to descend but it is more of a scramble. If you descend early you will be going down unsafe gullies with huge rockfall risk. Make sure to explore far before you commit down.
