Ascent Trip Report

Descended from San Ysidro and connected to the Thimble via the saddle between the two. Approached the Thimble from the East side and made our way up and gradually to the South end. The most technical part of this climb is a 30-foot unexposed chimney that you need to scramble up. Once emerging from the chimney (SE side) - it's a matter of VERY CAREFULLY picking your way across to the top. Peter had already been and had a rough idea of where to go.... Followed him up to the exposed summit, signed the register, and then we descended a diferent way - from the west side, down a steep boulder face and into a thick brush - which we bushwacked until we ended 1000 feet below in a wash. Walked 4 miles back to the car via some cross country travel, dry wash, and eventually jeep road. Ended about 1/3 mile West of where we had parked the car. Total stats of 10 miles, about 3500 feet (maybe 4K?) elevation gain. Total hiking time was a little over 5 hours.
