Ascent Trip Report

You need permission for both candidate highpoints. For Area 1 I couldn't understand/follow the routes described in the other TRs so I came up with my own route.

AREA 2 ...unsuccessful
I decided to start by visiting the alternate (area 2) candidate highpoint at the very southwest corner of the County. From Volusia County Highpoint we went back to the intersection 15A/17 and drove north on 17 for 14.3 miles to a right turn on Washington Avenue in the town of Pierson (at 9.3 miles we past through Barberville, intersection 17/40).
We drove east on Washington for 3.3 miles to the end of the pavement at a curve, Washington continues right as a dirt road, on the left is a gated track, heavily posted "No Trespassing, Violators will be Prosecuted, Ben F Johnson, Sheriff".
We went to 2 near-by homes for info. The owner of the property passed way a number of years ago, one of the homes had a 25 year lease with the deceased which was terminated with his passing, he didn't know where/how to contact the new owners. Once back in town I made an effort to contact the Sheriff with no luck, apparently he is rarely in the area. I decided to leave it for another visit.

AREA 1 .... successful
For Area 1 we drove back to Barberville and picked up 40 east 6.6 miles to a left on #11 north, continued 18 miles to US1 in Bunnel. We turned left on US1, then 1.3 miles to a left on CR13 (sign points to Espanola). At 3.1 miles arrive at a T-Junction in Espanola, at 11 o-clock is a gated dirt road, this is the TH, park here. Numerous signs "No Trespassing, Travel at Your Own Risk." I decided to travel at my own risk. When I got back to the TH I found out that Rose had a visit from the local Sheriff, who wasn't too happy with my accessing the trail without permission. He apparently was very short, warning her to make sure I don't do this again.
From the TH in Espanola I walked northwest up the flat dirt road about 1 mile to a sand pit on the left (evident that the whole sand ridge in the area was removed), about .3 miles long.
The PB coordinates puts the highground at spot elevation 59 in the thick woods past the north end of the sand pit to the left of the dirt road (abt 1.3 miles from the TH). I bushwacked the area and concluded that the highground is not in this area but rather about 200 yards due south in the sand ridge that is left over on the south side of the excavated sand pit area ..... I chose my spot at GPS coordinates 29.51533, 81.32751.
