Ascent Trip ReportQuick jaunt up Hoodoo Saturday with Amie, McKenzie, and Zach. Arrived at 1am to where the road was blocked by a down tree. Took a nap and once we got moving at 6amish took my axe (too bad my chainsaw was in my garage and not my car. Everyone could drive to the TH) to a large tree and cleared it just enough to squeeze by. After that cleared 2 or 3 more trees blocking the road. At 1 mile before the th there are about 5 substantial trees down. Would have taken longer to axe them than do the road walk so we opted to road walk. PSA next person up bring a saw, mechanical or hand.
Road walk, and first half of the trail was easy, no snow and some log hopping due to the past fires. Not as bad as Reynolds! Snow starts around 6k after thr little traverse at 5900'. Snow is punchy but the trail is easy enough to follow. Snow from 7100' to the saddle was good enough, no post holes. Once at the ridge the scramble to the summit is easy enough. Class 2 with a couple low 3 moves. Some snow but nothing very hazardous. 3 of us did the entire route in trail runners and no traxion though we carried boots and crampons. Ice axe came out for a couple sections though. The way out had a dusting of new snow falling, and the trail from 7k-6k was brutal post holing. Flotation may have helped but give it another 2 or 3 weeks of good weather and I don't think there will be all too much snow left.
No gpx as I screwed up the crop from leaving it on until Winthrop. About 14 miles and 5k gain with road walk.
