Ascent Trip Report

Trailhead was difficult to find due to high snowbanks and lack of signage. Deep snow made pace slow even with snowshoes. Steep sections extremely difficult as snow deep and loose. Trail blazes few and faded. Initial goal was E Baldpate. Modified goal Frye Notch Shelter. Revised modified goal summit Surplus Mtn. Turned back probably 1/2 mile before summit at 3 pm. Arrived at East B Hill Rd at 5pm (at dark). Dunn Notch Falls looked impressive. Will come back in spring/summer/fall to see falls in action.
