Ascent Trip ReportI climbed Brame Farine from the train station at Pontcharra. After finding my way out of the town I followed a muddy path that led up to a large forestry track. I followed this for a long way, gaining little height before taking a small path that led directly up the mountain. This inexplicably stopped all of a sudden, forcing me to go off piste and climb up directly through the trees. After much effort I reached a faint overgrown path, then a larger track. This appeared to be traversing below the ridge line, so I took another small path that gained height before starting to descend. I went off piste again and climbed up to a clearing that appeared higher than anything else. There was nothing higher to the South, for sure. I descended until I reached the path again, then followed this for considerable distance before reaching the col du Goulet (or de Crozet). I descended via a steep muddy path and eventually managed to get back to Pontcharra.
The highest point is marked as 1230 m on the IGN map and close to the track, although I was sure the unmarked ground I reach earlier was higher than anything else. It's very difficult to tell and not helped by the fact that the elevation of the summit changes depending on the map (1217 m on the online geoportail). I have no intention of making sure by reclimbing this terrible mountain. |
