Ascent Trip Report

This was my first big peak ever, the first time I was ever above 11,000 feet, and likely 10,000 and possibly 9,000 feet as well.

I was starting my last year of grad school, and suggested this hike to my roommate at the time. He was interested so we drove up from Riverside and camped at the high camp, Mahogany Flat. The next day, we hiked the trail to the top. For me, I had no idea how I would do, but I did fine. Vic was about 5 minutes behind me and the whole hike went extremely well. It was a thrill to summit this peak and it started my life-long fascination and love for the mountains.

If there was a baseball mitt icon to click, I would click it. We brought our mitts and a fake cloth baseball with us, playing catch at the summit, but one of us threw it errantly and the ball bounced down the slopes, possibly all the way into Death Valley.

Later, we drove into Death Valley to Furnace Creek. They have showers one can use. It was ungodly hot, 120 degrees or so.
