Ascent Trip Report

Trailhead is at the North Clevenger Staging Area off Highway 78 between Ramona and San Pasqual in San Diego County. This was my third attempt as the first two were hindered by the after-effects of the Corona vaccine.

Hike descends down to the streambed where the locals have gleefully vandalized the rocks with graffiti. From there, it's a slow, steady trudge up to the Clevenger Canyon Viewpoint at 1728 feet. Another half-hour of trudging puts you on top of Peak 1820. Trails are well marked and well used, though there are some overhanging sumacs and ground-dwelling Spanish Bayonets that poke your ankles. Sky was overcast and the wind was brisk. I put on a jacket at the top.

Peak 1855 did not seem that far off, but the trail kinds of dissipated along the way and I found myself bushwhacking down into and out of a gully. I decided to save 1855 for another day.

Trip down was uneventful.
